Another reason for him being trapped was Jayadratha, who due to his boon that he got from Lord Shiva, was able to stop all of the Pandavas alone, disabling them to aid Abhimanyu.

Desperate to escape the tightening grip of the Kaurava forces, Abhimanyu unleashed a whirlwind of attacks. He fought with the ferocity of a cornered lion, showcasing his mastery of various weapons. His arrows rained down upon the enemy ranks, causing chaos and confusion. The Kaurava army, despite their overwhelming numbers, struggled to contain this young prodigy.
Deceit Takes Root
Seeing their warriors falter, the Kaurava commanders resorted to a strategy of deceit. They violated the established rules of war, which forbade attacks on chariot drivers and those who are unarmed. As the young warrior fell to the ground, the Kaurav forces including six maharathis Drona, Karna, Kripa, Kritavarma, Ashvatthama, and Shakuni, disregarding all moral codes, rained further attacks upon him.
